Basic information:
• Tunnel rehabilitation
• Tunnel length: 360 m
• Excavation area: 67 m2

Railway tunnel Ležeški is located on the railway section Ljubljana-Trieste constructed in the year of 1857. The length of a tunnel is 360 m. Tunnel was constructed of a large carbonaceous dolomitic limestone blocks. There was no waterproofing in the tunnel so the fugues were washed out. Therefore, the water percolated into the tunnel causing the formation of icicles during the winter. The maximal overburden height is 55 m. The reconstruction of the tunnel consisted of rehabilitation and stabilization of the tunnel lining, installation of drainage and waterproof membrane, and a replacement of the ballast cushion with the reinforced slab. At the portals a transition between the ballast bed and a concrete slab was conducted.
